We all have that one account we follow that pops out an inspirational quote every day with a background of flowers or pink glitter, but has anybody noticed them dying out?
Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, there has been less and less positivity. It’s hard to stay positive when you’re worried about the pandemic around you, but something all of us need to keep in mind is that we need to stay positive in order to come out the other side better than ever. There is so much hate in the world, and social media seems to continuously spread hate, which is why these accounts mean so much to people. Instead of cruel words, we should be spreading positive ones. This is why it's so disappointing these accounts are drying up.
Just because these accounts are deflating does not mean we have nothing positive to view; it just means we have to be creative in the way we view positivity. Bob Ross said it best: “It’s so important to do something every day that will make you happy.” Though that is subjective to whatever makes you happy, there are so many videos and visuals to look at on social media to make each and every one of us happy. From satisfying videos to dogs welcoming their owners home from military service, there is so much happiness to see. We just need to find the right triggers in each and every one of us.
TikTok has made big bucks in bringing little videos and funny moments to the world. This app, similar to what Vine was, allows us to view funny videos from all over the world. Though this is not the same as a quote or a story of empowerment, it still gives up a little spark of something inside of us to allow us to keep on moving. It can be hard to get up every day with the thought of negativity looming over all our heads. But positivity is about moving and looking forward to the future. Positivity is a way to remind ourselves that there are good things out there even if we can’t necessarily see them.
Though it’s been a very difficult year with the pandemic still looming and the destruction that seems to hit the news every day, it's important for all of us to look ahead and see that good is coming. 2022 is a brand new year full of brand-new possibilities. We shouldn’t be saying goodbye to positivity, but hello to the beginning of a new positivity movement. Though social media and the internet can be a harsh place to find positive things, it’s important to realize it doesn’t always have to be a conventional look. We can find beauty in all forms. We can find joy in anything. So the real question becomes: What does positivity mean to you?
