How to Style Sweats

By Stephanie Lam

Sweatpants are a staple clothing item in any household. When people wear the soft and stretchy pants, they instantly feel more relaxed and comfortable. However, people are often ashamed to wear sweats in public. Wearing the pants can make them appear disorganized and lazy. Sweats can be easily dressed up if people add unique shirts, jackets, and accessories to their outfit. Here are three ways to rock both a comfortable and fashionable look.

1. Add layers of clothing

Take a dark sweatpant color and make it as a base for your outfit. Put on any kind of solid or patterned shirt or sweater, and then add a long utility or jean jacket on top of it. Wearing a longer jacket will make your outfit seem more put together, and won’t make the sweatpants obvious. Now that fall season is in full swing, it is acceptable to put on scarves, gloves, and beanies.

2. Wear a turtleneck or thermal

Sweatpants are naturally loose-fitting and flowy. A good way to appear more poised is by pairing them with a tight-fitted top. Turtlenecks and thermals are an ideal choice because the design hugs your upper body. You can throw on statement necklaces, gold jewelry, or even dazzling pendants to add more flair to the outfit. This combination works best for Zoom meetings or other virtual activities. People will only see your sophisticated-looking top, and you will feel more comfortable sitting in your chair.

3. Play around with festive patterns

People don’t usually wear decorative sweatpants in public, but why not? The holiday season is coming up, and that means a plethora of Halloween and Christmas themed designs will make a come back. Show people your playful side by wearing sweats with pumpkins, turkeys, and gingerbread prints. If you wear these, planning the rest of your outfit will be easy. All you will need to wear is a monochromatic top and shoes.

Everyone gets stressed and busy with their day-to-day lives. It’s no secret that sweatpants are the first clothing item that people want to wear. if you follow these sweatpant fashion tips, you’ll have nothing to be embarrassed about.
